Launch Rocket League with your main controller. So actually there is a 3rd party program needed.

To get started, you will need two controllers to activate the split-screen feature. Player 2 will then join the party and you can play any Offline or Online mode together. So far after a couple days of everything working, and me FINALLY being able to play rocket league in peace without issue, I can rest assured that things seem to be back to normal. My computer must have thought there was two controllers plugged in when only one was actually plugged in. What ended up fixing the issue was disabling (NOT UNINSTALLING like i kept doing) one of the HID-compliant Game controllers that was associated with what I can only assume was some sort of "phantom controller." I had done this and didn't notice improvement, untill I restarted my computer right after disabling this HID drivers.

What I think was happening was every time I plugged in my controller, it seemed to install two sets of drivers in device manager under the xbox 360 controller part, but also in HID-Compliant Game controllers.
Took must have been 2-3 days after of trial and error, uninstalling drivers, redownloading them and disabling stuff and what not. Oh shoot completely forgot to update! My mistake. So via a reddit post earlier this year a guy who asked the same question actually posted a solution to his problem: Okay 4:30 AM here so I'm gonna post one more idea before heading to bed haha So far, theres nothing that definitively negates Psyonixs promise to fix the split-screen issue soon, so players can hope and expect to have multiplayer work like normal soon.
